Easy Strawberry Jam

INGREDIENTS:
4 to 4 1/2 pounds of fresh strawberries
5 cups sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons cream of tartar

METHOD:
Hull strawberries. Place strawberries and sugar in a large saucepan. Bring to the boil and boil hard for 8 minutes. Lightly mash the strawberries with a potato masher. Add Cream of Tartar and boil for 5 minutes. Cool slightly before pouring into hot, clean, dry jars. cover when cold.

  1. I haven't made jam in forever Teresa. I really used to love making preserves and pickles. With just the two of us, there's not much use for them anymore.

  2. i always make my own jam.im a sad man.lol.i always use frozen strawberries,i use the same weight sugar as fruit.plus the juice of 1 or 2 if small lemons.i freeze my own fruit,then put in the pan,let them thaw,and they start to break down on own,all the juice is released,slow heat till cooked,turn heat up,add sugar,warmed slightly,and bring to a rolling boil for 3 minutes.check for set by spooning a little on a plate that has been chilled in freezer.if it skins,its done if not boil for 2 more mins.jar up.eat.yummmy.take care,love mort xx
